The Conqueror football team finished the preseason 4-1, and opened league play Friday October 6th. The game featured big runs, scores, and hits from Los Altos leaving Walnut with no answers as the Conquerors dominated.

Los Altos struggled to score on their first drive as the Mustangs defense forced the Conqueror offense to convert on two fourth downs. Eventually senior quarterback Kody Olmos connected with running back JoJo Reyes for a 12-yard touchdown pass. Walnut moved the ball down the field with ease on the next drive but were stopped at the 20-yard line on third down when senior linebacker Tommy Rodriguez sacked the quarterback. The Mustangs attempted a 38-yard field goal, failing to convert as the kick missed to the right.

Olmos rushed down the sideline for an 81-yard touchdown as the first quarter expired which put the Conquerors up 14-0. Los Altos led 28-0 at halftime after Olmos and receiver Quinn Peoples connected on 38-yard and 20-yard touchdowns.

The second half began with a 95-yard kickoff return touchdown by Walnut’s Jared Arellano. On the next possession, Olmos fumbled at the Walnut 45-yard line, which was picked up and returned for a TD by Mustangs defensive end Jacob Gaskin. The score stood at 28-14, until Olmos sealed the game with a 5-yard touchdown run giving Los Altos the 34-14 victory.

Linebacker Tommy Rodriguez had two sacks and three tackles stated that he felt great out there, “I felt amazing out there, I was flying to the ball, getting tackles and playing good. The offense was leaving huge gaps which allowed me to make plays.” On the offensive side, Quinn Peoples had four catches for 57-yards and two touchdowns, Quinn was thankful for his quarterback, “I felt great, Kody was making great throws and I was getting open.”

Los Altos faces Charter Oak on Friday, October 13th at 7pm. Charter Oak is ranked 2nd in division 3 while the Conquerors rank 10th in division 5. This game is a must win for the Conquerors to have a chance at being league champs. Los Altos defeated the Chargers last year 21-7. The team knows that this game is huge and know practice is key, “We are going to work hard and clean up our mistakes, so we can beat Charter Oak,” commented Peoples. Rodriguez added, “We need to keep on working and strive to get better every day, and always give it our all at practice.”
