The Lady Conqueror Basketball team is off to a 4-0 start and has collected it’s first championship of the season. The team took part in the Bertha Mata Tournament hosted by Whittier High School and withstood some close games to emerge as the tournament champions.
The Lady Conquerors knocked off Citrus Valley in the first game winning by a 25 point margin but suffered the loss of point guard Brenda Reyes to a sprained ankle. The squad overcame the loss of Reyes and eeked out a 39-36 victory over San Gabriel in game two. Murrieta Mesa was next up in the semifinals, but with the return of Reyes and a few key defensive stops the squad came up with a 48-40 win. In the championship game, the Conquerors took on Temple City and once again emerged victorious to bring home the hardware. Coach Mark Nakamura credits great team defense and amazing unselfish team basketball as the keys to the success in the first four games.
The girls are off for two weeks before taking part in the Savanna/Mayfair Tournament December 20-23 and then participating in the Garden Grove Tournament after Christmas.
