The Lady Conquerors CIF run got off to a blistering start as they hosted Leuzinger in first round action. The game was tight after the one quarter but the Lady Conquerors took control of the game heading to halftime with a 40-31 lead. The girls continued to extend the lead in the 3rd and finished off Leuzinger 72-58. Madelyn Roel led the team with 21 points and 7 rebounds and Ulani Wells was a defensive force, chipping in with 6 blocks, 13 rebounds in addition to her 13 points.
That first round victory sent the Lady Conquerors on the road to take on the division’s #1 seed Redondo Union. The game was full of ups and downs and was intense and competitive from start to finish. The first quarter felt like a boxing match with each team feeling each other out and taking their shots when available. The quarter ended at a 10-10 tie. The second quarter was a different story as the Conquerors struggled to score and the SeaHawks pulled ahead by 10. Redondo looked to be in control of the game as they continued to extend the lead and finished the 3rd quarter ahead by a score of 37-21.
The Lady Conquerors refused to give up and showed amazing heart battling back from the 16 point deficit and with 5 minutes left in the game cut the lead to 10. Danielle Pineda took control of the game during the 4th and led the Conqueror comeback, cutting the lead to 4 with 3 minutes left as Los Altos trailed 40-36. The game slowed significantly in the last 2 minutes as each team took key timeouts to discuss strategy. The Conquerors took the last timeout of the game with 14 seconds left and a chance to tie the score. Redondo tightened up on defense and the Lady Conquerors were unable to get a clean shot off. The girls showed amazing heart battling back but came up just a bit short.
Danielle Pineda led the team with 12 points, Tiffany Liao chipped in another 8 points and Ulani Wells once again led the Conquerors with 12 rebounds, 8 blocks along with 11 points.
