The Conqueror Baseball season gets going on Saturday as the Varsity team takes on Bonita in the season opener and the lower levels take on Upland. All three levels will be competing in the Frozen Ropes Tournament to begin the season. Once the tournament concludes, the Conquerors schedule will be packed with league and non-league games all the way through May with little time for rest. The non-league schedule consists of La Habra, Wilson, Downey and Norwalk. Those games will be sprinkled in amidst the 15 league games on the schedule. The Varsity squad will also be competing in the St. Paul Tournament over Spring Break.
This year’s Varsity team is looking to rebound from a 2017 campaign in which the team went 10-14 and missed the playoffs. The 2018 squad is determined to compete for a league title and make some noise in CIF. Veteran leadership will be a key to the teams success with nine Seniors and seven Juniors on the roster. Sam Gomez, Rob Valdez and Luis Barcenas will be relied upon to give the Conquerors quality innings on the mound while Nico Santiago, Christian Vargas, Kody Olmos and Mario and Esteban Castro will are expected to contribute throughout the lineup. Underclassman Hector Bautista is also expected to make an impact as he builds upon a solid freshmen season.
