Last weekend, the Lady Conquerors competed in the President’s Day Classic and took on some of the best teams in Southern California. The girls took it to the competition and made the tournament Final. They lost to Gahr in the championship game but put the rest of SoCal on notice that the Conquerors are for real. This year the girls have been bumped up to Division 1 after a season in which they dominated the Hacienda League and made it to the Division 3 Quarterfinals.
The Lady Conquerors’ quest for another league title and a deep playoff run begins on Saturday as the girls will compete in the 3rd Annual Dana Housley Tournament. The schedule has recently been rearranged due to impending weather next week so the team will play a double header on Saturday followed by another game on Monday. In addition to the Housley Tournament, the girls will be taking part in the Torrance National Tournament and the Irvine Woodbridge Tournament. This season’s non-league contests include La Habra, St. Lucy’s, Upland and Pacifica along with the 10 Hacienda League games.
The Conquerors are led by last year’s Tribune Player of the Year and Hacienda League MVP Savannah Diederich. The squad is also returning a number of key contributors including Kelly Monroy, Melissa Felix, Bailey Chavez, Jocelyn Vidal and Brianna Santos. The senior laden group is expected to be a force to be reckoned this season and will no doubt make Los Altos proud.
