The Lady Conqueror Softball team is off to roaring start to the season. They are 5-1 through the first 2 weeks of the season and really impressed in their first tournament. The team went 4-1 in the Dana Housley Tournament with their only setback coming at the hands of one of, if not, the top ranked team in the state, Norco in a 2-0 loss. The squad knows what its getting with Savannah Diederich in the circle and that has been pure dominance so far. However, what has been equally impressive has been the offensive production up and down the lineup.
The team is averaging 8 runs per game and have outscored their opponents 48-7. The production starts at the top as Bailey Chavez and Melissa Felix set the table for a daunting 3-9. The lineup is full of veteran sticks led by Diederich, shortstop Kelly Monroy and right fielder Brianna Santos. Third Baseman Joclyn Vidal and catcher Mikalya Ceballos have shown impressive power this season as they balance out the bottom half of the lineup.
While the offensive production has been great, the impact of a dominant pitcher cannot be understated. The Conquerors have the luxury of having one of the best pitchers in the area in the circle every time they take the field in Savannah Diederich. Diederich has only given up 2 earned runs through 6 games and posted 4 shutouts. That dominance was on display on Tuesday as Diederich gave up 2 hits while racking up 16 strikeouts in the victory over La Habra.
The girls take on Upland today at home before starting the Torrance National Tournament next week.
