The legend of Los Altos softball pitcher Savannah Diederich grew some more on Tuesday as the University of Mississippi commit threw a perfect game in a 12-0 mercy shortened five-inning victory over Walnut.
Los Altos improved to 23-2 and 7-0 in the Hacienda League as it inches closer to the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 playoffs that start in a couple weeks.
For Diederich, who struck out 13 of the 15 batters she faced, it’s all about sharpening up for the playoffs. Los Altos is ranked fifth in D-1.
“She’s pitching at another level right now,” Los Altos coach Lydell McCullough said. “We all see the bigger picture with the playoffs coming into focus fairly soon.
“She was disappointed in the fact that she didn’t strike out all 15 hitters. She definitely locked in right now – that’s for sure.”
In addition to Diederich’s performance, Jocylyn Vidal hit a home run and Mikayla Ceballos hit two 3-run home runs. Last week, Diederich and Vidal combined to no-hit West Covina in a 14-0 victory.
