The Conqueror Baseball season was a bit of a roller coaster ride as the team started hot then hit a mid-season skid before finishing 3rd in league and qualifying for CIF. While the season was up and down, one thing the team could count on was getting quality production from Sam Gomez at the plate and on the mound. Gomez led the team in batting average and on base percentage, hitting an impressive .380 with an on base percentage of .484. He had 30 hits and a team leading 16 runs batted in. In addition to his presence in the middle of the lineup, Gomez was the team’s ace posting a 1.44 ERA en route to a 9-2 record. Gomez was also the winning pitcher in the Conquerors wild card playoff victory over Knight. Gomez was rewarded for his efforts this season by being named the MVP of the Hacienda League and First Team All-Area. Gomez’s recognition as the league’s MVP, while the team finished 3rd, shows how much the other teams respected Gomez’s abilities on the field. Sam was recognized as one of the best players in the area as he earned First Team All-Area honors.
In addition to Gomez being named MVP of the Hacienda League, seniors Christian Vargas and Mario Castro were also named First Team All-League. Second Team All-League honors went to Hector Bautista, Rob Valdez, and Nico Santiago
