The Conqueror Basketball season got started last night and the 2018-19 Conquerors did not disappoint. The team opened the season against intra-district school La Puente. The Division 5AAA finalists from a year ago were no match for the Division 1 Conquerors. The game started off close with an early first quarter score of 7-4 but the Conquerors soon settled in and got rolling. By halftime the Conquerors had extended the lead to 61-17 and led 88-32 at the end of the third quarter. Los Altos added 8 more in the fourth to bring the final score to 96-40.
Jarod Lucas set the tone for Conquerors and showed everyone in attendance why he is a Division 1 signee. Lucas scored double digits in each of the first 3 quarters, knocking down seven 3-pointers and 19 of 21 free throws. His last 5 points in the 4th quarter were of special note. Lucas finished the game with 52 points, which broke the previous single-game scoring record of 51 points. The record was previously held by Chapelle Brown who scored 51 in a quadruple overtime game. Lucas’ 52 points also surpassed Mike Smith’s 46 point effort in regulation from the 1980s.
The Conquerors will not play during Thanksgiving Break but will be back in action on November 27th against Orange Lutheran in the Battle Zone Tournament hosted by Corona Centennial. Game time is 7pm at Orange Lutheran.
