Multiple Teams · Boys Basketball Jumps Out to Early Hacienda League Lead


The Boys Basketball team got off to a slower start to the 2018-19 season than they have in previous years as they went 1-3 in the Centennial Tournament.  However, the squad starting clicking in the Bellflower Bucs Classic as they went 3-1 with their only loss coming at the hands of St. Francis, 75-73.  Last week the team began league play with two teams that have given them its toughest tests in league over the past 3 years, Diamond Ranch and Walnut.

The boys rose to the occasion in the home opener against Diamond Ranch as five Conquerors scored in double figures.  Jarod Lucas led the way with 30, Dion Porter scored 18, and Christian Cavanias added 13 points.  The boys trailed most of the first half but stepped on the gas in the 3rd quarter and pulled away for the 81-64 victory.

Friday nights contest against Walnut saw the Conquerors jump out to a 13-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.  Jarod Lucas racked up a double double with 33 points and 14 rebounds while Dion Porter and Matt Barrera both contributed 9 points apiece in the 63-45 victory.  Check out some highlights of the Walnut game below.

The Conquerors are now 7-4 overall, 2-0 in league and in the drivers seat for another Hacienda League title.  This week the team will compete against some quality competition in The Classic hosted by Damien.  The Conqs will compete in the Silver Division and have been seeded 2nd.  The tournament opener is Wednesday December 26th against Jasper Place High School from Canada.
