Tenacious defense and clutch shooting has been the calling card of the Lady Conquerors Basketball team all season and Thursday night was no different. The team was looking to avenge an early season 2-point loss to Upland in which the team felt they didn’t play their best basketball.
The Conquerors came out shooting the ball well but turnovers kept Upland in the game and Upland ability to get offensive rebounds gave them multiple opportunities to score. At the half, the Conquerors led 31-24. The second half was a physical and intense half of basketball as both squads showed how hungry they were to move on to the next round.
The battle of the boards in the second half went to Los Altos as Kiara Moreno and Jenica Hernandez played tough in the paint, took charges, disrupted shots and pulled down rebounds to keep Upland from easy scoring chances. Jackie Mai and Christina Liao turned up the heat on the Upland guards and forced turnovers throughout the second half. That tough defense combined with the hot hand of Madelyn Roel and Emma Magana knocking down clutch 3 pointers in the waning minutes of the 4th quarter was too much for Upland. The Lady Conquerors prevailed 54-44 and will move on to play at Warren on Saturday at
