On Monday, the CIF State & Southern Section offices released the revised athletic calendar for the 2020-21 school year. The revised calendar eliminates the traditional Fall Season and calls for Fall sports to start in December. The other major change is that CIF has eliminated the traditional Winter Season and created new Fall Season and Spring Season groupings. This allows teams to play as close to a normal schedule as possible. Playoffs will still take place at the end of each season with no major changes to divisions and entries. CIF is also suspending a number of bylaws for this year which will allow students to compete with outside teams at the same time as they compete with their high school team.
While the CIF calendar gives us a timetable to prepare for, schools are still operating under Pandemic conditions and have been given the order to cease athletic activities. The school year will begin on August 5th with no students allowed on campus and classes take place in a distance learning format. No information has been given regarding what that means for student-athletes. Los Altos will be given direction from L.A. County Health Officials and the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District leadership as to if and when students and coaches will be allowed back on campus to return to athletic activities. The district will also be providing guidelines regarding what type of restrictions there will be when activities are allowed to resume. When that information becomes available, it will be disseminated to all students and parents.
